Simon R Green has produced another awesome book and it may be one of his best. The Ishmael Jones Mysteries have all been horror/sci fi themed country house murder mysteries but each different enough not to feel repetitive. This one contains the best mystery of the three so far. Mister Green plays fair too. Every clue you need to solve the principle mystery is there. You just have to be paying attention. If you haven't read the other two, you can even start with this one since no really important information is given away which would affect your enjoyment of the previous two.Lastly, I think I need to address the first reviewer's comments about female characters. Frankly, I don't think any in this book are badly served. All are full characters and don't wait for the menfolk to do their acting or thinking for them. True, none are of the type that are the female leads in the Drood or Nightside books but the Jones Mysteries are neither of those series and female characters like that would be out of place. Ishmael is different from the male leads so why not the female leads as well?

A typical (great) Simon R. Green tale. Ostensibly a different story line about an abandoned alien and his (it's??) adventures as a detective, the world of Ishmael Jones still interacts with Green's other worlds. This is what makes the tale so pleasant, hinting of Droods, gods, monsters and other elements of Green's other series. One never knows (and still hopes) that Ishmael will run across Eddie Drood or a character from the Nightside. It would, however, be nice to see a couple hundred more pages per story. They always seem to end so quickly!Good job, Simon! Keep Ishmael around!

I love Green. I wish he would write another Night Side book. I really like the weirdness!

Not his best work. Rather disappointed in this book. I love the Nightside series and the Droods. Probably not get the next one in this series.

Classic Simon Green and classic Dark Manor House mystery. Quirky characters, twisty plot. I'm not sure how Simon green continues to get away with kind formulaic themes and details, but he keeps pulling it off. A fun read.

At the third book now, the series is growing on me. But it has never grabbed me from page 1 the the way Nightside and Secret histories did. I certainly won't be spending the hardback price for the kindle edition of book 4.

Not as good as the rest of the series. I am glad it is over. There is more to read.

My only complaint was that there was a timeline error. You'll notice it. Otherwise, another amazing book by my favorite author.

I purchased this book because I am writing my first Imbolc ritual for my coven and I was looking for something different that the norm to do this year. This book gave me some great background and ideas as well as some good history to share with the group. I will definitely be purchasing the rest of the set for the entire wheel.

This is a wonderful little book on Imbolc! I love it and will be getting the rest in the series. It gives some history, simple rituals, along with crafts and recipes you can do on this special day. It arrived on time and in excellent condition. It is a good side to fit in a purse of medium size or larger. It is easy to read as well.

I liked this volume more than the Yule one, mostly because it remained pretty firmly fixed in Brigid lore, rather than being spread across a broader variety of cultures. This gives it a depth- although I also appreciate a broader approach!Imbolc is a quiet festival, and the crafts and rituals described work well for it.I will mention that in re recipes, one is for making butter; it would have been helpful to many people to be informed that ultrapasteruized cream will NOT make butter, no matter what you do. Often that is the only kind of cream available! But that failure is NOT an omen! it's due to the processes.Mildly recommended, and I will likely get more in the series.

i love the books in this series as they give so much information that I didn't know before. Great for anyone who was new to Paganism or was an experienced hand and just wanted a fresh perspective.

This is a great books serious. I wouldn't use these as a dependent everyday book but these do have useful knowledge and are just pretty read to add to your collection either way.Great series and the price is very decent and fair

Nice book. Wouldn't mind having the whole collection. Almost too much info. Also bought The Kitchen Witch by Soraya. I like that her book has all sabbaths in one book. For a quicker go to reference book.

This is the 3rd book I have bought in this series and I have been pleased with all of them. Lots of great info and ways to celebrate. Plus rituals to honor each of them included.

Great resource if you are still a beginner.

I just finished "The fear of insignificance" and I highly recommend it. it does a fantastic job of diagnosing the particular malaise of living in the 21st century. It also does a wonderful job of laying out some possible, if idealistic, solutions to the challenges we all face. But most of all I love how he elaborates and extends the great traditions of the ancients, philosophers such as Kierkegaard and Nietszche, early moderns like Freud and his crew, and even my hero Ernest Becker, into the actual world â€“ with its interconnected iPads, globetrotting, celebrity, infotainment, Klout, and collapse of all traditional meaning systems. There are many powerful passages and much to chew on (the notion of "Homo globalis" and the critique of Nike's 20-year ad campaign are priceless), and despite some small structural defects, it is a slim masterpiece.

I enjoy reading Strenger though he is not an easy read. His references are constant reminders of how uncouth an American I am. But I am so thankful for what he adds to the craft.

Great book -- Mr. Strenger articulates the stresses of what seemingly shouldn't be so stressful, and a way out of the morass.

So far, for me, this is one of the best books related to Ernest Becker's The Denial Of Death. It is one great read!

A more suited book for those who have studied in depth this topic. Unfortunately I haven't so struggled to fully understand it's content. It is not a poorly written book,on the contrary a very imformative book. Just not suited to me.

Carlo Strenger's answer to this question is the basis of The Fear of Insignificance. This is not a light or easy read, but I found it so compelling that I finished it in two days. Strenger argues that many of us who have chosen good professions feel diminished when we compare ourselves to the global elite who seem to have it all. And, that current self-help / law of attraction belief systems are unhelpful as they do not allow for the graceful acceptance of human limitations. Overall Strenger makes a case that to live a valuable life we must accept the tensions of life and seek a thoughtful, educated approach to our lives.

"The fear of insignificance" explores the popular mindset today--one that includes obsession with celebrity, status, and one's position in the world. Strenger analyzes the dangers of being dwarfed by the have-alls, and feeling insignificant and unhappy with one's own life as a result.The book is divided into three parts: "The Defeat of Mind," "From the I Commodity to the Dreams of Individuality," and "Reclaiming Our Minds." The first part delves into the popular belief system advocated by the modern media, most notably the "just do it" campaigns where celebrities, while marketing a product, are held up as heroes while they preach that anything is possible if one just reaches for the stars. The problem with such a popular belief system, as Strenger analyzes it, is that it's very easy to believe but not as realistic in life. The second part of the book puts emphasis on refraining oneself from seeing their life in terms of satisfying others and how much money one makes, but instead working on getting a satisfaction with the life one has. Stenger reflects that everyone is born with some limitations, and the people who make it to the top are no exceptions: they either had connections, luck, or some other unpredictable factors that lead them to success. Instead of buying into the star and dream obsessed media culture, Strenger advises people to avoid seeing themselves as "commodities," shun away from comparing themselves to others, and venture throughout their own lives with an open heart and mind--something discussed more in the third part of the book, along with religion.Overall, I thought Strenger's convincing argument was very relevant to today's "keeping up with the Jones's'" world. He recounts meetings with different people who had "respectable" jobs, families, and supposedly perfect lives---until they realized it wasn't what they wanted. Indeed, Strenger previously noted that merely having what used to be a respected job (medicine, law, engineering, etc.) was no longer enough when media continuously obsesses over the networth of singers, movie stars, and athletes. It is so easy to see oneself as very much in the bottom rung of this supposed pyramid. But Strenger's book rightly disagrees with such pessimistic views, and instead focuses on the realistic--the ability to work with one's limitations and actively accept yourself. While much of the writing is very academic, it doesn't take away from its relevance. Somebody experiencing a mid-life crisis or otherwise unhappy with life might benefit from Strenger's reality check.

Ingeman Arbnor (1949) is a Swedish economist, Professor at the Lund University, Lund, known for his international bestseller "Methodology for Creating Business Knowledge" written with Björn Bjerke. Ingeman Arbnor was born in Sweden in 1949, and studied Economics at the Lund University. A few years, later Arbnor was appointed to his first professorial position at the Lund University. His dissertation containing what is now considered classic methodological reorientations.[1] Arbnor further worked as an entrepreneur in the field of establishing a running business training and development centers in cooperation with multinational corporations in Sweden. Among other business accomplishments, he has started a trading house, a Venture Competence Invest, and an academy for venture management education.[1] Since the 1990s, he has been a member of the expert group to the Swedish Association of Graduates in Business Administration and Economics.

Björn Bjerke was born in Sweden and got educated to PhD level at Lund University.

His research, lecturing and business consulting experience spans four decades and as many continents. Björn has held professorships at the Waikato University in New Zealand, the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, University of Maiduguri in Nigeria, the University of Southern California and a Senior Fellowship at the National University of Singapore in Singapore.

Back in Sweden Bjerke worked for a while at the Malmö University College before going to Stockholm. At Stockholm University Bjerke has led a research group in entrepreneurship consisting of 15 junior researchers.[1] Since 2007 he is working at the Baltic Business School at the Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden.
